About

Independent product studio: AI apps, SaaS stacks, creator tools, mobile experiments, heavier interactive work. The thread is boring on purpose: proof shows up as builds instead of slideware.

Founder

Phillip Mattern III is a computer science major focused on Android. He favors small releases that survive real taps and flaky networks, then watches where people stumble and tightens again. The studio sits between disciplined product passes and quieter lab experiments, anchored on apps people keep open past launch week.

Training & toolkit

I'm building Possum Mattern Studios while studying computer science and software development. The work is backed by formal coursework and active hands-on practice across web systems, visual design, databases, and application development.

Coursework foundation

  • Web and systems: Internet / Web Development I & II, plus Advanced Web Design
  • Programming logic: JavaScript, C#, Java, and object-oriented programming
  • Data management: MySQL database coursework
  • Visual design: Photoshop and digital imaging
  • Mobile apps: Android and application development

Active studio toolkit

Tools I'm currently learning and using in studio projects.

  • Frameworks: React / Next.js, Flutter, and Dart
  • Languages: TypeScript, Python, and Ruby
  • Tooling: Vite, Tailwind CSS, GitHub, and Vercel
  • AI workflows: Cursor AI, ChatGPT, Gemini, and API-based integrations
  • Design tools: Figma and Photoshop

Coursework gives the foundation. Studio projects turn it into shipped surfaces.

Build philosophy

Polish

Layouts with clear hierarchy, components that behave, detail on screens people reuse every week.

Performance

Lean where it shows: lighter paint, restrained JS, motion that survives mid-range phones.

Privacy

User data stays close to the person unless the architecture truly cannot keep it there. Quiet analytics, defaults you could explain aloud.

Ship mindset

Scope, build, watch what happens outside the repo, tighten again. Prefer field signal over hallway debate.

Elsewhere

Code and prose live on GitHub and the portfolio. For something direct, plain email skips the funnel.
